MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) - A Muncie baby sitter admitted in court on Tuesday that she left a baby unattended in her home the afternoon he died and then lied about her whereabouts.
Tina Byrd, 43, was arrested in January, a week after 4-month-old Matthew Cheng's death. Police said surveillance video showed Byrd shopping less than 30 minutes before she reported finding Matthew unresponsive in a crib.
A Delaware County judge said he would rule on whether to accept the plea agreement from Byrd at her Sept. 28 sentencing. Byrd pleaded guilty to felony charges of neglect and obstruction of justice.
Matthew's death happened 11 weeks after a 9-week-old boy died at Byrd's home. A coroner ruled both as "sudden unexpected infant deaths" and no charges were filed in the first death.
