GARY, Ind. (AP) -- Police in northwestern Indiana say a 10-month-old boy was badly hurt when he fell from a third-story window while his mother slept in their apartment.
Gary police Cpl. Gabrielle King says the boy was flown to a Chicago hospital for treatment after he fell on Tuesday but didn't give details of his injuries.
A resident of a first-floor apartment spotted the boy after hearing cries and called for an ambulance.
King tells the Post-Tribune that investigators are confident that the boy's fall was an accident and not a result of neglect. The window from which the boy apparently fell had a loose screen.
