AUBURN, Ind. (WANE) All 43 employees at an Alcoa plant will lose their jobs by the end of March 2013. Workers found out about the lay offs in a meeting on Monday.
The plant on the southwest side of Auburn makes aluminum parts for the auto and defense industries. It currently employs 25 hourly workers and 18 salaried.
The company has not decided what the future of the plant will be.
"While this was a difficult decision made necessary by market conditions, we wanted to give our employees as much notice as possible. We recognize how deeply this impacts them, and we are working to support them through this transition process," Monica Orbe told KPC News. Orbe is the director of communications for Alcoa Engineered Products and Solutions, based in New York, N.Y.
