BRISTOL, Ind. (WANE) - A hunter trying to retrieve a goose fell out of a motorboat and into the St. Joseph River near Bristol.

Indiana Conservation Officer Mark Hines said Michael D. English, 27, of Elkhart, was operating the motorboat. He reached over the side of the boat to get a goose when the boat flipped over, sending him and most of his hunting equipment into the river.

His hunting partner, Chad R. Spencer, 31, of Goshen, was able to swim to English to help him to the shore.

Neither hunter was wearing a life jacket. Both men weren't hurt. There was minor damage to the boat, but most of their hunting gear was lost.

Conservation officers want to remind people to wear some kind of flotation device when hunting on or near water.
