NEW HAVEN, Ind. (WANE) - A family in New Haven has quite the pumpkin display. Shane Pickens and his family carved 61 pumpkins this year.
Last year the family carved 43 pumpkins. The goal for this year was to do 50 pumpkins, but they kept going.
Now it's grown into a big family tradition to carve the pumpkins. It started 12 years ago with 15 pumpkins when Pickens would carve pumpkins with his four children. Now his kids are grown and they and their spouses all help carve.
"It gives me the opportunity to spend time with family," Pickens said. "And I do it to watch the trick-or-treaters come by and see the expressions on their faces and give that enjoyment back."
Most of the pumpkins are carved using stencils. Pickens said one of the biggest challenges is his legs falling asleep after holding a pumpkin on them for hours.
All 61 pumpkins will be on display by Monday night at 1705 Ayr Dr. in New Haven.
