FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Kathy Buckley, the woman billed as the World’s First Hearing-Impair Comedienne, made an appearance in Fort Wayne Friday.

She was part of the Three Rivers Festival and the Grand Opening of the new HearCare office.

When asked about HearCare , Buckley said, “Fort Wayne is very bless to have this company here.”

Kathy has won numerous national awards, has become and author, and has appears on many television shows, including: CNN, Good Morning American, Tonite Show, Entertainment Tonite, The Today Show, Extra, Inside Edition, and many more.

Buckley said, “A friend of mine wanted me to do a comedy contest called Stand-Up Comics Take a Stand to raise money for children with cerebral palsy and I love kids. I ended up with a career. There is an old saying, ‘you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.’ He must have been hysterical when he found out I became a comedian.”

As a cancer survivor, Buckley has been a five time American Comedy Award Nominee as Best Stand-up Female Comedienne.

Buckley said she has one thing she wants everyone to learn from her experiences, “There are a large percentage of people that have hearing loss and don’t even realize it. They may start to isolate themselves and become frustrated that people are ignoring them when they try to communicate. That is the time when they need to come and get their hearing checked. There is nothing wrong with hearing loss and nothing wrong with being deaf, but there is a problem with not being able to communicate.”
