FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Teams from all over the state including three Fort Wayne teams will compete for the 1A, 2A and 3A IHSAA Girls Basketball state championship in the Summit City Saturday.
Fort Wayne is hosting the 35th Annual IHSAA Girls Basketball State Tournament for the first time in history Saturday, March 6. The tournament is usually held in Indianapolis.
Scheduling conflicts prevented Indianapolis from hosting the championship. Fort Wayne won a bid to host the tournament at the Memorial Coliseum. IHSAA officials said they were impressed with what Fort Wayne had to offer.
"We think this is a good venue for us," IHSAA Commissioner Blake Ress said. "We're pleased Fort Wayne was interested and bid on it and I think it's going to be a great event."
Three Fort Wayne teams: Canterbury, Bishop Luers and Concordia will have home court advantage as they fight for state titles.
IHSAA Game Schedule:
A: Vincennes Rivet vs. Canterbury: 10:30 a.m.
2A: Austin vs. Bishop Luers: 12:45 p.m.
3A: Rushville vs. Concordia Lutheran: 6:00 p.m.
4A: Ben Davis vs. Merrillville: 8:45 p.m.
