FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The Fort Wayne Rescue Mission expected to serve Thanksgiving dinner to about 3,000 people.
Director of Administration Carlton Smith says he's seen the need on Thanksgiving grow by about 200% since he started with the mission about four years ago.
The meal wasn't just for the homeless and hungry. Anyone who wouldn't otherwise have a place to go was also welcome there.
"Not everyone that comes here is at the door of starvation," said Smith. "But they may not have friends or may not have a family that they can share a holiday meal with."
Smith said these hard economic times have turned regular donators into those coming in for services.
