Tips help cops make robbery arrest

Tips came in after surveillance video aired on TV

FORT WAYNE, Ind, (WANE) - After surveillance video aired on TV of an armed robbery at a Family Dollar store, multiple tips came into police which helped them arrest Tony Fitzgerald Martin for armed robbery.

Tony Fitzgerald Martin, of 214 E. Masterson Ave., Fort Wayne, was charged Tuesday for armed robbery.

Fort Wayne police said the Family Dollar at 2011 Broadway robbed on January 26, 2010, was equipped with excellent video surveillance and captured images of the robbery.  After the video was released to the media and aired on January 27th, police received multiple tips. 

From these tips, police said detectives were then able to develop Tony Fitzgerald Martin as a suspect.

On Tuesday, February 2, 2010, police found Martin near Warsaw and LaSalle Streets in Fort Wayne.  After he was taken to the police station for questioning, Martin was charged with armed robbery.

During the robbery, police said a man, which is now believed to be Martin, pulled a knife on the clerk and got away with cash.

The suspect was described as a black man in his 50's, 5' 9" to six feet tall with a mustache.

He got away in a 2000 maroon Camry.
