ALBION, Ind. (WANE) - In the wake of December's school shootings in Newtown, Connecticut, the Central Noble School Board is exploring a plan to put several armed teachers in its schools, according to NewsChannel 15's partners at KPC News.
The school system has a total of four schools. Those include a high school, a middle school, and elementary schools in Albion and Wolf Lake.
Under the plan, officials would choose up to four teachers in each school to get trained in firearms, tactics, and the securing of a concealed weapon.
The teachers would be considered special deputies and their authority would begin and end at the school doors.
Central Noble Superintendent Chris Daughtry and Noble County Sheriff Doug Harp are devising this plan, which the board approved considering Tuesday night.
Harp said arming teachers is more realistic economically than paying a resource officer to serve at each school. Harp also said a donor has offered to provide guns for the teachers should the plan become a reality.
It's not clear exactly when a finalized plan will go before the school board for ultimate acceptance or rejection.
