UPLAND, Ind. (WANE) - Taylor University officials announced Monday that they are beginning construction on a new $10 million residence hall.

The residence hall will hold 150 beds and is expected to be completed by the beginning of the 2013-2014 academic school year.

"The decision to build a new residence hall was not entered into lightly. In the past 20 years, our enrollment has grown by nearly 200 students; in the meantime we have added 100 beds. As a result, a number of our junior and senior students have lived in authorized off-campus housing,"  Taylor President Dr. Eugene B. Habecke said.

The new hall will be built on the south side of the Taylor University campus near existing residence halls. It will be connected to the Gerig Hall through an atrium.
