FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)  A local principal spent the day on the roof Tuesday to encourage students at Washington Center Elementary school to read.

Richelle Miller took part in the Pizza Hut BOOK IT Principal Challenge that encouraged principals to "Read Your Heart Out" during National Young Readers Week. Miller stayed on the roof and read from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and in doing so is now entered into a contest to win 101 copies of the newest "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" book.

Throughout the day students took part in reading activities and guest readers visited classrooms.
