INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- The state Commission for Higher Education has approved plans to create a school of philanthropy at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.

The Indianapolis Star reports the school will expand on the developments that have come from Indiana University's Center on Philanthropy.  IU officials say they believe it will be one of the world's first schools dedicated solely for the study and teaching of philanthropy.

IUPUI Chancellor Charles Bantz says creating the school of philanthropy will expand and enhance the university ability to provide students with a top-quality education in a growing field. Students will be able to obtain bachelor's, master's and Ph.D. degrees in philanthropic studies.
