FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Mayor Tom Henry and officials with the City's Solid Waste Department held a program at Irwin Elementary School on Wednesday.

The students were able to participate in the fun and interactive event while learning about the city's One Cart Recycling Program.

The purpose of the event was to demonstrate what can and cannot be put in the recycling carts.

Wednesday's visit was the 50th school visit by the City of Fort Wayne and the Dumpster Drummers.

The "Be Smart... Use Your Cart" program has been presented to more than 15,000 students in Fort Wayne Community Schools.

The One Cart Recycling Program has been very popular since its launch in 2011 with a 42 percent increase in resident participation. The City of Fort Wayne said 75 percent of residents are recycling with this program.
