FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Ivy Tech Community College−Northeast dedicated a new Auto Body Center on Thursday.
The $900,000 Auto Body Center on Opportunity Drive is home to the already existing Aviation Maintenance Technology program . The 10,000 square-foot building houses the college's Auto Body portion of its Automotive Technology program .
Originally constructed in 1990, the building was previously used for construction offices and warehousing for a local contractor.
The facility will now allow for more Ivy tech courses, such as Waterborne Refinishing material and techniques, which is a new green process currently being used by many auto manufacturers. The extra space in the building will also help alleviate capacity constraints.
Ivy Tech Community College is the state's largest public postsecondary institution and the nation's largest singly accredited statewide community college system. Ivy Tech serves nearly 200,000 students annually and has campuses throughout Indiana. It functions as the state's engine of workforce development, offering affordable degree programs and training that are aligned with the needs of its community along with courses and programs that transfer to other colleges and universities in Indiana. It is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central Association.
