Huntington University president retires

HUNTINGTON, Ind. (WANE) - Huntington University president Blair Dowden announced Friday that he will be retiring after 22 years.
Dowden, 60, will retire at the end of the 2012-2013 academic year.
Under his leadership, Huntington University has doubled its enrollment, trebled its endowment, and constructed or remodeled eight buildings.
Academic programs were also expanded for undergraduate, adult, and graduate students. Some of the university’s largest and fastest-growing degree programs were launched during Dowden’s presidency, including nursing and digital media arts.
The institution transitioned from “college” to “university” in 2005, under Dowden's leadership.
Dowden is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Council on Education and also serves on the board of the National Association for Independent Colleges & Universities (NAICU) and chairs its Student Aid Committee.
Dowden is a board member and past vice chair of the Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI). He is currently board chair of Lenawee Christian Ministries.
