FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A Homestead senior was surprised in the middle of her etymology class with a $10,000 scholarship and a laptop from Nordstrom on Monday afternoon.
Alison Mansfield was one of six people from the Indiana, Michigan and Ohio region who received the Ten4U Scholarship from Nordstrom for the 2012 school year.
Around 980 students applied for the scholarship.
Alison submitted an original essay with the scholarship application form and was then interviewed by a board of eight people in Michigan.
"Alison's goals for the future really stood out to us," Suzy Horman, Nordstrom's Midwest Regional Diversity Affairs Director, said.
Nordstrom has been giving the Ten4U scholarship to high school seniors since 1994. For more details on the scholarship, or to apply, click here .
