FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Fort Wayne Community Schools will get a $139,290 grant to help students who excel in the classroom.
The High Ability (Gifted and Talented) Grant, approved for acceptance by the school board Monday, will allow the district to hire a specialist to better train classroom teachers to help students who excel in core subjects, and who may also have exceptional gifts, talents, motivations, or interests.
The grant allows FWCS to focus on students who perform, or have the potential to perform, outstanding levels of accomplishment in at least one subject area.
The grant will be used for the current school year.
Currently, FWCS uses high ability services through its Pyramid for Success and Academic Services program.
The grant is administered by the Indiana Department of Education.
