WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Classes begin Monday, July 6, at Grace College for two new master’s degree programs for teachers and business trainers.
The two new degrees, Master of Education and Master of Science in Instructional Leadership, will be offered in a blended on-campus and online format enabling completion of either degrees in two years. The master’s degree students will meet July 6 through July 10 for the on-campus portion of the programs. Most coursework will be completed online.
A third master’s degree program, the Master of Arts in Teaching, recently received approval from the Indiana Department of Education. The Master of Arts in Teaching degree program is for prospective teachers who already have a bachelor’s degree and want to be eligible for an Indiana teaching license.
The Master of Education program includes a required core of 24 credit hours and a cognate area to complete the 36-credit-hour degree. Cognate areas are: Leadership, Literacy, Special Education, Christian School Teaching, or Generalist. The program ends with a professional capstone course in which candidates present a portfolio to document their professional growth during the program. Professional development plans address the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
Courses and course assignments assist candidates to meet the objectives of the professional development plans that teachers must submit to the Indiana Professional Standards Board for license renewal. Candidates also develop knowledge and skills needed to apply for National Board Certification. Upon completion of the M.Ed. program, candidates will be equipped to serve in a variety of leadership roles in their schools.
The M.S. in Instructional Leadership program is designed for business professionals who are responsible for training employees. To earn the M.S. degree, a candidate must complete 36 credit hours, including a core of 24 credit hours and a 12-hour cognate area that is designed to address the unique needs of corporate trainers. Candidates also can complete this program in two years, with courses offered through a combination of on-campus and online opportunities.
