HUNTINGTON COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - Fire crews were called in Thursday morning around 6:45 a.m. to help with a large diesel fuel spill in Huntington at Gladieux Refinery, 4757 N US Highway 24 Thursday morning.
According to Gladieux, diesel fuel was being transferred from one bulk tank to another at approximately 3:30 a.m. when the transfer tank over-filled spilling product into the diked / containment area. The spill was not discovered until shortly after 6:00 a.m.
It is now estimated that approximately 230,000 gallons of product had been lost.
According to Huntington County dispatch, all off duty fire firefighters in Huntington were called in to help and brought 2 pumpers, 1 tanker-pumper, 1 aerial platform and 2 command vehicles with them.
The fuel was contained and at this point nothing is in danger.
