FREMONT, Ind. (WANE) - Police officers were called to the Outlet Shoppes at Fremont in reference to a shop lifting complaint around 11:50 a.m. Wednesday.
Police said two women were inside of the GAP Store at the outlet mall when an employee saw one woman place clothing into a shopping bag and then leave the store.
A Steuben County deputy arrived at the mall and saw the two suspects coming out of the Polo Ralph Lauren store. The officer approached the women but they ran to their vehicle to get away. Police said when the women were driving out of the parking lot, their vehicle almost hit the deputy's squad car.
According to police, the suspects led the deputy on a pursuit. The women drove southbound on I-69 until they finally stopped just south of State Road 6 at the 334 mile marker.
Police arrested Shaholony Monique Stanford, 29, of Indianapolis and Breonda Shontae Easterly-Conwell, 24, of Fort Wayne and transported to the two to the Steuben County Jail.
Stanford was charged with Theft, Possession of Stolen Property, and Resisting Law Enforcement by Vehicle, all class D felonies.
Easterly-Conwell was charged with Theft and Possession of Stolen Property, both class D felonies.
Police say the women had stolen items from at least four different stores and more than $1,500 worth of items were recovered.
