U.S. Postal Service tips off cops to pot

GARRETT, Ind. (WANE) - Police busted two people with one pound of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and a loaded gun after the U.S. Postal Service tipped them off.

Police said they received the illegal drug tip from the Postal Service on Wednesday.

Police arrested Benjamin Hayes, 25, of Garrett and Brytanne Hayes, 23, of Garrett, on Thursday after they executed a search warrant of their home in the 200 block of S. Randolph Street in Garrett.

Benjamin and Brytanne Hayes were found inside the home along with their three-year-old daughter. The child was detained by the DeKalb County Department of Child Services.

Benjamin and Brytanne Hayes were both charged with:

  • Dealing Marijuana within 1,000 feet of a youth program, a class C felony
  • Maintaining a Common Nuisance, a class D felony
  • Neglect of a Dependent, a class D felony
  • Possession of Paraphernalia
