KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - A Tennessee man is being charged with felony exploitation of an endangered adult over 60 years of age after he allegedly stole $20,000 from an elderly Kosciusko County woman.

Brian Eric Schendel, 37, of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, sold a car to a 79-year-old Kosciusko County woman in August 2011. He told the woman he had been in the military, was injured, and needed money.

The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department said Schendel had the woman send him cash and money orders over the past year to different locations in Mississippi and Tennessee.

Authorities estimate that the woman sent him between $15,000-20,000.

Kosciusko County Detectives were able to track Schendel to the Oak Ridge, Tennessee area. They flew to Tennessee on Wednesday to pick him up from the Oak Ridge Police Department.

Schendel is currently being held in the Kosciusko County Jail with a $5,000 bond.
