FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Fort Wayne police are investigating a strong-arm robbery attempt at Canterbury Green Apartments.

Just after midnight Tuesday, police were called to the 5200 block of Stonehedge Boulevard for a reported robbery attempt.

According to police, a woman exited her vehicle and was approached by a man. The man attempted to take the woman's purse but was unsuccessful.

Police said the man then took off and they attempted to use a K-9 unit, but were unable to locate a possible suspect.

The woman was taken to the hospital after complaints of chest pain. Police said she had a pre-existing heart condition and was taken for observation.

This is the third armed robbery to occur the Canterbury Green complex in about a week.

Timeline: Apartment robberies and attempts

Around 9:05 p.m. on Saturday, Jan 12 police said a suspect pointed a gun at a resident of Canterbury Green and told him to get on the ground. The suspect got away with the victim's phone and cash.

On Monday, Jan. 7, a man and woman reported being approached by two men at the entrance of their apartment building at Canterbury Green. Both men had guns and took the victims' iPhones, purse, wallet, credit cards, and cash.  No injuries were reported at the scene.

Monday night's armed robbery is the eleventh reported armed robbery at an apartment complex since Jan. 7. Police believe eight of the armed robberies are related but said on Monday that they believed the armed robberies perpetrated after Friday Jan. 11 to be the work of copy cats .

After the uptick in robberies around Fort Wayne, FWPD has added extra patrols to apartment complexes. Several FWPD and IPFW officers were patrolling Canterbury Tuesday morning.

Anyone with information should call Fort Wayne Police (260) 427-1201 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 237-STOP [7867].
