FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Fort Wayne police are confining a stabbing victim at a Fort Wayne hospital on a warrant for possession of marijuana.

Police say he's Cortney M. Haney, 22, of Fort Wayne and he's in serious condition.

They said they were called to the 2700 block of West Coliseum Blvd. around 3:30 a.m to the Travel Inn.

The officer that responded said he was walking up near room 144 and saw a man holding a washcloth to his chest. The officer said the washcloth had blood on it and there was a trickle of blood running down the man's stomach.

That's when the officer told the man to go back into the hotel room and lay down.

The officer said once at a Fort Wayne hospital, the stabbing victim, Haney, said he was at a McDonalds restaurant at Goshen and Coliseum when he got into a verbal argument with another man. The argument ended with Haney being stabbed.

Haney said the suspect used a pocket knife, or a utility knife.

The officer also discovered Haney had an active warrant out for his arrest for possession of marijuana; he will be served the warrant before he's released.
