ANGOLA, Ind. (WANE) - Two armed robbers beat a clerk and stole guns and cash in broad daylight at an Angola sporting goods store Friday afternoon.
The Steuben County Sheriff's Office said two white men believed to be in their mid-20s went into Ultimate Warrior Sporting Goods on County Road 200 West in Angola at about 1:40 p.m. asking for fishing supplies. As the clerk was getting the supplies, one of the men pulled out a sawed-off shotgun while the other pulled out a handgun.
The men then locked the main entrance door, beat the clerk repeatedly, and tied him up. Afterward, they gathered handguns, rifles, and cash before taking off in a mid-90s blue minivan.
Police say a customer came to the store while the robbery was happening but left after finding the door locked. The customer was driving a small blue pickup and police are asking that this person call the Steuben County Sheriff's Department right away to give an eyewitness account of what he or she saw.
Shortly after 2:00, Angola Police encountered a vehicle matching the description of the one the suspects were reported to be driving. The sheriff's department and state police questioned the two men inside and arrested them but police do not believe they were involved in Friday afternoon's armed robbery. The arrests were for law violations that were not related to the robbery.
Anyone with information that could be helpful is asked to call the Steuben County Sheriff's Office .
