Police tracked footprints to find teenage goat killer

ROANOKE, Ind. (AP/WANE) -- Police have arrested a teenager who they say stabbed and mutilated three goats.

Nineteen-year-old Tanner Macy of Roanoke was free Saturday after posting $10,000 bond on felony charges of torturing or mutilating a vertebrate animal and obstruction of justice.

Macy was arrested Thursday after Allen County sheriff's deputies tracked footprints from the pen where the goats were killed to Macy's home less than a half-mile away. An officer said the tread on Macy's shoes matched the shoe prints that were found inside of the goat pen and near the garage door at Macy's home.

Officers also found dried blood stains on Macy's shoes and jeans.

According to an affidavit for probably cause, the three goats belonged to Dale and Sarah Stroud. The goats were kept in a pen on the east side of the Stroud's property. Stroud said he found all three of his goats with multiple, deep stab wounds and lacerations around 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

The police affidavit says the goats' injuries appeared to have come from "a very large knife" or similar object.
