LAGRANGE, Ind. (WANE) Police in LaGrange County beefed up security at the courthouse Monday after getting word that a jail inmate was planning to try to escape during a scheduled court appearance.
According to our partners at KPC News, Sheriff Terry Martin closed all but one entrance to the courthouse and had metal detectors in use. Extra officers were also on alert in the courthouse.
Police questioned and then released three suspects who may have been involved in the escape plot.
A news release from the sheriff's department stated that investigators learned of the plan to provide a car, money, weapons, and tools to the inmate. The attempt was coordinated over a period of several weeks via inmate visitations, mail, and phone calls.
The case remains under investigation.
