EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) -- Police say a 79-year-old Evansville man says he feared for his life when he fatally shot a 19-year-old man who was attacking his granddaughter.
Police say Davon Obryant Gee was arguing with a 17-year-old girl inside a house Sunday night when he chased her outside and started beating her. Witnesses told police that when the girl's grandfather tried to break up the attack, the younger man threatened to use a stun gun on him and ignored the grandfather when he told him several times to stop.
The grandfather pulled out a handgun and fired a single shot.
The Evansville Courier & Press reports Gee ran into a neighboring yard, where he collapsed and died.
Police say investigators will turn their report over to the county prosecutor's office for review.
