Police: Victim opened door after knock and was shot by suspect

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A man is in serious condition after police say someone knocked on his door, forced him inside with a gun, then shot him.

Fort Wayne police say the adult man was shot in the shoulder around 10:30 Monday morning in the 2700 block of Plaza Drive.  Investigators found more than one shell casing inside the doorway of the house.

The victim was taken to the hospital in serious condition. Police say the injuries are non-life threatening.

At this time, police believe nothing was taken from the home, but say a possible motive for the shooting was a robbery.

Officials said there was at least one other person inside the home at the time of the shooting.  She was not hurt.

The crime has left police doing some door knocking themselves.  Only they are looking for answers.

"They have knocked on some of the doors to the neighbors asking if they saw anything or heard anything and some are already reporting that they did hear the gunfire," said Raquel Foster, public information officer with the Fort Wayne Police Department.  "So we're looking to see if they saw anything, anyone, or any suspicious vehicle."

Like police, the crime has left concerned neighbors with more questions than answers.

"It makes me scared, because I've got kids that live over here," said one neighbor.  "Hopefully they don't knock on somebody else's door and do that to them."
