SCHERERVILLE, Ind. (WANE) - A Schererville, Ind. bar is facing three charges after Indiana State Excise Police officers received an anonymous tip that the bar was participating in illegal gambling Sunday night.

Excise police said Spike's Lakeside Inn, located at 21 E. Joliet Street, had more than 400 people gambling with more than $200,000 inside of the bar on Super Bowl Sunday. Police said the bar had three Super Bowl gambling boards. Each board contained 100 squares, which cost bar patrons $100 or $1,000 per chance. Police said some squares were sold to more than one person.

Police preliminarily cited the bar on three charges related to violations of the Alcoholic Beverage Code:

  • Public nuisance, to-wit: promoting professional gambling, a class D felony
  • Failure to maintain good character and reputation
  • Violation of the scope of a Type II gaming endorsement

Excise police said gambling participants could also face charges of unlawful gambling, a class B misdemeanor.

According to police, a representative of Spike's Lakeside Inn turned in over around $204,367 to excise police on Monday.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed.
