FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Fort Wayne police now believe a man who told them he was forced into his apartment by a man who then bound his hands with duct tape and then drove him to Columbia City where he was dropped off lied about the whole incident.

Thursday, January 31, 2013 was the date of the apparent made-up series of events.

According to police, the man, who they have not identified, told them he was approached outside his Pointe Inverness apartment on Fort Wayne's southwest side at around 7:30 pm.

The victim claimed the man forced him into the apartment where he duct taped his hands and then ransacked the place.  At the time, police indicated nothing appeared to be missing.

The victim then told police he was forced into his car, a black 2004 Chrysler.  The man then drove the victim to Columbia City where he was dropped off.  The man then drove off.  The vehicle has since been found and police said it had not been stolen.

Raquel Foster, spokesperson for the Fort Wayne Police Department, told NewsChannel 15 that the case is considered an ongoing investigation and it will be forwarded to the Allen County Prosecutor's Office once it's completed.

She did not indicate what tipped police off to the fact the series of events never happened.
