WHITLEY COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - Officers with the Whitley County Sheriff's Department responded to a call of a suicidal individual Monday afternoon.
Shortly before 4:30 p.m., officers were advised that a female 911 caller was receiving text messages from a friend who stated he was going to kill himself.
According to a report, deputies responded to an address on County Road 700 West just south of Larwill. The individual failed to answer the door, so deputies forced entry to the mobile home through a rear door.
The report said deputies were immediately confronted by a man pointing a gun at officers. The man was identified as Jeremy T. Gutherie, 41. They then left the home, leaving Guthrie inside.
The Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team was called to assist officers.
Guthrie refused to comply with officers request to leave the home. Around 9:30 p.m. Gutherie exited the home after officers used tear gas.
The report said Gutherie was taken to Whitley County Hospital for observation and later to the Whitley County Jail.
Gutherie was arrested for pointing a loaded firearm. He's being held on a $100,000 surety bond.
He's scheduled for an initial court appearance Dec. 3.
