GARRETT, Ind. (WANE) - Garrett police are investigating a shooting at the North Point Cross mobile home park that left one man hospitalized and resulted in the arrest of three men.
According to Garrett Police Chief Keith Hefner, sometime around midnight Friday, a man and woman were inside their trailer on Woodwind Trail with two other men when an altercation occurred.
The fight ended up outside and the woman told police she heard a gunshot. When officers arrived, they found a 25-year-old male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Hafner said the victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He has since had minor surgery to remove a bullet from his hip area and was recovering Friday evening.
Police were taking witness statements from the victim and woman and a third witness who saw part of the events unfold. Hafner said the woman was able to identify the shooter, and investigators worked to gather more information on the other suspect.
Chief Hafner said several DeKalb County agencies, including the Indiana State Police, were looking for the suspects.
Within two hours of the shooting, officials had identified and detained the three suspects.
Two children were inside the mobile home at the time of the incident, but Hafner said they slept through the entire event.
The incident remains under investigation by the Garrett Police Department, Auburn Police Department, DeKalb County Sheriff's Department, and the Indiana State Police. Charges have not yet been filed.
