FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) A man jumped into the St. Joe River on Monday morning and tried swim away from police after fleeing from a traffic stop.
Jeremy T. Bolenbaugh, 32, of Fort Wayne, didn't make if very far and was arrested and charged with Resisting Law Enforcement., Habitual Traffic Violator, Possession of Marijuana(synthetic), and Possession of Paraphernalia.
Bolenbaugh was pulled over by Indiana State Trooper Caleb Anderson near the intersection of Coliseum Boulevard and Vance Avenue. When Anderson exited his police car, Bolenbaugh drove away. He drove north up Hobson and into the Canterbury Apartment Complex, about two miles away from the initial stop.
He got out of his car at the apartment complex and tried to run away on foot.
Trooper Anderson was joined by Trooper Jacob Quick, Senior Trooper Shane Neuenschwander and his K-9 partner Smokey. They tracked Bolenbaugh to the St. Joe River wood line and heard him jump into the water and try to swim away.
He was caught less than a mile up-river underneath the St. Joe Center Road Bridge by Fort Wayne and IPFW Police Officers.
