FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - UPDATE: The woman that allegedly hit and ultimately killed a pedestrian on Broadway and then left the scene early Sunday morning was arrested by Fort Wayne police on several charges including drunk driving.
Anissa M. Northrup, 33, of Fort Wayne was preliminarily charged with two counts of operating while intoxicated and one count of leaving the scene of a personal injury crash (fatality).
Police were called to the 1100-block of Broadway just before 3 a.m. Sunday to find a man unconscious and unresponsive in the middle of the street. Paramedics listed him in critical condition at the scene.
Fort Wayne police said that the victim was standing in the road or attempting to cross the road when he was hit by a light colored mini-van, allegedly driven by Northrup. After the accident, Northrup failed to stop and fled the scene. Witnesses told police the mini-van had damage to the front passenger side.
Minutes after the crash, an officer pulled over the mini-van in the area of Huffman Street and Franklin Avenue and placed Northrup under arrest.
Broadway was closed for about two hours while the Fatal Alcohol Crash Team (F.A.C.T.) investigated the incident and processed the scene.
The accident is still under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department.
