Fort Wayne man accused of sexually assaulting girl

MAHWAH, NJ (WANE) - Police in Mahwah, New Jersey have arrested a Fort Wayne man for allegedly driving ten hours to have sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl.

Joshua Elkins, 28, Fort Wayne, is currently incarcerated in the Allen County Jail awaiting extradition to New Jersey to face the charges, according to Allen County court records.

Elkins was arrested Jan. 28 in Fort Wayne.

According to a report by the Mahwah Police Department, Elkins started talking with a minor last year on a website called "Omegle." Police said the two exchanged phone numbers on the site and began talking via the phone, according to the report.

The report said Elkins drove ten hours to meet the girl and sexually assaulted her in her home and a Paramus, New Jersey hotel.

The report said one of Elkins's friends tipped off police.

Elkins is a registered sex offender in Allen County. According to Allen County court records, Elkins pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual misconduct with a minor in 2006 and served three years in jail.

Mahwah police said the investigation into forensic evidence is ongoing and additional charges are pending.

Elkins is currently being held on $250,000 bond.
