WABASH, Ind. (WANE) - The Wabash County Sheriff's Department is investigating a double homicide suicide that took place early Wednesday afternoon. Police say a mother and her daughter were killed by a man who then took his own life.
The incident took place at a home located at 178 West Dora Road
in Wabash. Police say at approximately 1:13 Wednesday
afternoon, they received a 911 call from a man with a report of an
unwanted person at that location. The caller said he had
dropped off his girlfriend, Amanda Hines, and he heard screaming
coming from inside.
When police arrived six minutes later, they found two women dead inside the home. Amanda Hines, 27, and her mother Sherry Hines, 57, were killed with a knife. Both women lived at the home.
They also found 33-year old Tony Ricketts of Wabash County inside the residence. He was taken to Wabash County Hospital for treatment of a self-inflicted knife wound. Ricketts later died.
"Unfortunately as law enforcement it's something you can't prevent, it's not a matter of what you didn't do, or something you should have done, an individual makes a choice and you really just can't prevent it," said Wabash County Sheriff Leroy Striker.
Investigators said Ricketts was not related to the women and that the killings were prompted by a domestic dispute. Ricketts used to date Amanda Hines. Police believe that's how the dispute started.
Police say Ricketts admitted to the crime at the hospital before he died.
