FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A Fort Wayne woman will spend the next two years in prison for child neglect.

Amanda Alvather, 24, pleaded guilty to two counts of child neglect on Oct. 1, 2009. Court documents showed police found Alvather's three children starving and living in filth in the fall of 2008. At that time, her two year old child only weighed 13 lbs. That child, who has Down's Syndrome, also suffered from acute dehydration and high blood sugar.

When police intervened, Alvather's other two children had rashes possibly caused by frostbite. Alvather had admitted to police she did not have the heat on in her apartment. She also admitted to avoiding health care for her children because of her financial situation.

Tuesday, a judge passed down a sentence to Alvather. She will spend two years in jail, and the next four years on probation.
