FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) A news anchor at a Fort Wayne television station was arrested at a Walgreens on Tuesday afternoon on suspicion of drunk driving. Mary Collins Frank was arrested on a similar charge in 2009.
According to a report filed by an officer with the Fort Wayne Police Department, Frank entered the Walgreens on W. Jefferson Blvd. at Liberty Mills Road smelling strongly of alcohol. Frank goes by the name Mary Collins on Indiana's NewsCenter's INC Today where she anchors the morning news. An employee of Walgreens called the police after Frank purchased a bottle of wine.
When police arrived, Frank had returned to her SUV, which also had her dog in it, and had driven up to the pharmacy's drive through window. An officer approached the SUV and asked Frank if she would be willing to take a portable breath test because he smelled the strong odor of alcohol. Frank reportedly refused the test and initially refused to provide her license. The officer wrote in the report that at one point Frank made a motion to the gear shift as if she was going to drive off, however after advising her that she wasn't going anywhere until she gave him the license, she agreed to hand it over.
The officer returned to the squad car to run Frank's license and she followed the officer. According to the report, she asked the two officers on the scene why they were there and what they were doing and then tried to take her license back.
Frank was then cuffed and placed in the back of the squad car.
According to the police report, Frank asked to speak with Fort Wayne Police Chief Rusty York several times, however the officer refused to allow her to do so.
Inside Frank's SUV, police found an opened, partially-consumed bottle of wine on the floor of the passenger side.
Animal Care and Control was called to take custody of Frank's dog as she was uncooperative in providing police with information on anyone else who could pick up the dog.
After being taken to the Allen County Lock-Up, Frank was given a breathalyzer test that registered a blood alcohol content of 0.14. The legal limit in Indiana is 0.08. She refused a second blood alcohol test.
Frank faces a felony charge of Operating Vehicle While Intoxicated, Prior Conviction. She appeared in court Wednesday morning where she posted a $2,500 bond. Frank's next court appearance is scheduled for July 2, 2012.
Frank pleaded guilty to a previous misdemeanor OWI charge from an incident in 2009.
It's unclear what Frank's employment status is with INC, however around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the Mary Collins Bio had been removed from the Personalties Page on the Indiana's NewsCenter web site.
