HUDSON, Ind. (WANE) - Steuben County Sheriff's Department officers arrested a man and woman in Hudson Saturday, preliminarily charging them with child abuse and neglect.
The Hudson Town Marshal got a report on Friday afternoon that a one-year-old boy was abused at a residence in Hudson. Through an investigation, police developed probable cause to arrest Austin Phibbs, 19, and Samantha Rhodes, 20, both of Hudson.
The two were arrested around 3 p.m. Saturday. Phibbs was charged class C felony neglect of a dependent and class D felony battery to a child less than 14 years old. Rhodes was charged with class C felony neglect of a dependent. Both are behind bars without bond.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and more charges may be filed. No other details about what led to the charges were immediately released.
The one-year-old was admitted to a Fort Wayne hospital for a complete medical assessment and possible internal injuries.
The Steuben County Division of Child Services also assisted in the investigation.
