FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Police said a domestic dispute leading to a hostage situation on the 800 block of West Jefferson Blvd. ended peacefully early Saturday morning.

According to police, a female victim was involved in a domestic dispute with the suspect, Ryan Baughman, 23, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and prescription drugs.

Police said Baughman had a gun and threatened the victim, who then fled the house and called police.

Two children, ages 4 and 1, were inside the home when the suspect locked himself inside the apartment.

Police said they tried multiple times to contact the suspect but he would not respond. Around 6:00 a.m., officers on the scene forced entry into the apartment using a directed explosive charge.

According to police, Baughman was found armed with a semi-automatic handgun and two additional loaded magazines of ammunition. He was taken into custody.

Officers at the scene said the two children were found sleeping in the apartment and were returned safely to their mother.

Police said the female victim suffered minor injuries. Nobody else was injured.

Traffic on West Jefferson Blvd. between Main and Van Buren streets was tied up for over three hours because of the incident.
