Bank opened drive-thru on Wednesday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Wednesday Update: The bank opened its drive-thru on Wednesday; the building remains closed to customers.

Freedom Financial Credit Union told NewsChannel 15 it has very little money and can really only help people with financial emergencies.

The Fort Wayne Police Department and the Northeast Indiana FBI Bank Robbery Task Force are investigating a bank robbery, but said this isn't a typical bank robbery for this area.

Around 9:45 Monday night, Fort Wayne police said they were investigating a bank robbery at Freedom Financial Credit Union in the 1800 block of Inwood Drive.

Police released an update on the investigation around 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday. According to their findings, an employee of the bank was approached by two men at her home after she left work. The two men blind-folded and tied her up.

The employee was held captive by the two men until after dark. They then took her to the credit union and forced her inside to get cash.

The two men then fled the scene in the employee's car, a grey Chevy Impala. She was uninjured. It is not known how much cash the men got away with.

The Impala was found unoccupied near Manford Street and Fruehauf Drive in Fort Wayne. It is currently being processed by Crime Scene Technicians for evidence. Anyone who may have been in the area of Manford Street and Fruehauf Drive is asked to report any activity to the police.

Photos and suspect descriptions are not yet available. Detectives are currently investigating the possibility of any video surveillance.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the City of Fort Wayne Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 800-237-STOP (7867).  A cash reward is possible for information received at Crime Stoppers.

This robbery remains under investigation by the Northeast Indiana Bank Robbery Task Force which is composed of: City of Fort Wayne Police Department, Allen County Sheriff Department, Indiana State Police, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Past Robbery Attempts

Freedom Financial on Inwood Drive has been the target of several robbery attempts.

In April, a man came up behind a woman and forced her inside the bank. Police said the man struck the woman in the head several times with a hard object. The robbery attempt forced Concordia Elementary into lockdown for about an hour.

In December of 2011, three men robbed the credit union at gunpoint and demanded cash. All three fled the bank with some cash. No customers were in the bank at the time and no one was hurt.

In November of 2011 , a man stopped a robbery attempt and helped police locate the suspect after he fled the scene. The man didn't get away with anything and was later located by police and arrested.
