FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Two burglaries. One victim.
"Part of me thought: who would steal from a Little League?" said Ryan Keirns, the Foster Park Little League Player Agent and coach.
In mid-August, someone broke down the garage door to a shed at Foster Park Little League and took the John Deere tractor. A few weeks later, it happened again. This time, the thief made away with a lawn mower used for field upkeep. However, none of the baseball equipment was taken.
"I mean Foster Park is a relatively small league, and we have pretty limited resources, so it hurts hard for the league to have a loss like that," said Mark Heflin, a parent of one of the players.
Board members say the cost of damages and losses is over $10,000. They say as a non-profit finding that money will be difficult.
"We can't charge players more because it's the life and blood of our system, and we don't want to price kids out of playing Little League baseball," Keirns said.
The league still has months until the season starts again, so it has time to find the resources to replace the lost items. But, of course, it's something board members wish they didn't have to do.
"We're here," Keirns said. "We're part of the community. We're trying to provide a safe, fun activity for the kids to do during the summer time, and somebody is taking our resources."
There have been no leads on who took the property. However, if you would like to donate to the teams you can contact Ryan Keirns here .
