FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A Fort Wayne native and former Indiana University football player was arrested Friday morning on charges of armed robbery of a drug dealer.
Damarlo Belcher, 24, is accused of robbing four ounces of marijuana from a dealer at gunpoint. The incident happened in a parking lot at North Walnut Street in Bloomington on Oct. 30.
Police learned Belcher was staying in Fort Wayne and he was arrested at a relative's house in the city without incident on Friday. 12 grams of marijuana and $795 in cash were also confiscated.
Police learned about the armed robbery of a drug dealer while investigating a Nov. 3 robbery and homicide that happened on Dekist Street in Bloomington.
Belcher played football at IU from 2008 to 2011 and attended North Side High School in Fort Wayne. Belcher was kicked off the IU team in 2011. The IndyStar reported in March 2012 that Belcher admitted to reporters that a failed drug test was the reason for the dismissal.
The investigation into Belcher’s possible involvement into other criminal activity is ongoing.
Police ask that anyone with information on these crimes call the Bloomington Police Department at 812-339-4477.
