NORTH WEBSTER, Ind. (WANE) - The Indiana Department of Natural Resources released information late Monday night on an incident near Durham Lake over the weekend.
According to a report, a DNR officer was patrolling near the lake Nov. 24 around 5 p.m., when a vehicle directed his attention to a hunter leaving the woods.
The officer made contact with an individual, Charles Norris, 29, Leesburg, who had an outstanding warrant from Whitley County, according to the report.
Two additional officers arrived after the initial officer requested backup. The report said Norris then ran while officers were attempting to place him in handcuffs.
Officers were able to eventually detain Norris and he was taken to Kosciuscko Community Hospital for evaluation.
Later, when arriving at the jail, the report said Norris attempted to escape officers when he jumped from a slowly moving police vehicle. He ran away on foot while being handcuffed with his hands behind his back.
DNR officers chased him down a second time and proceeded to book him into the Kosciuscko County Jail.
During booking, Norris claimed to have ingested balloons containing methamphetamines earlier in the day. Norris was taken back to the hospital for further medical treatment.
Eventually, Norris was booked on five charges, including the outstanding felony warrant.
The charges include resisting law enforcement, escaping law enforcement, possession of cocaine, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and failure to procure a hunting license.
