ANGOLA, Ind. (WANE) - The woman accused of faking cancer and collecting donations from the community during a benefit turned herself in Friday.

April Landis, 27, faces four felony charges of theft.

Detective Tim Crooks with the Angola Police Department said Landis told people she had a rare form of brain cancer.

There was a benefit in her name at Sliders where people in the community raised thousands of dollars.

Several businesses were said to have donated prizes, merchandise and gift certificates. Landis is said to have come with her head shaved.

After the benefit, there were rumors around Angola that it was all a scam. Police said Landis later admitted she didn't have cancer and returned a large amount of money.

Police said Landis is married with four kids and think she lied about having cancer for financial reasons.
