MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) -- Ball State University is encouraging students to avoid traveling alone around campus at night after a male told police he was walking home to his apartment near campus in Muncie when he was attacked by two men with a sharp object.
The Star Muncie reports the attack occurred about 3 a.m. Friday. The school sent a public safety notice text alert to students and staff about 5 a.m. notifying them of the attack encouraging students to travel in groups at night.
The message said the victim was able to flee from the attackers, was treated at the hospital for facial injuries and released. The school said the attack was unprovoked.
