Auburn store robbed at knifepoint

AUBURN, Ind. (KPC) — Police arrested an Auburn man Sunday evening, charging him with robbing a city convenience store at knifepoint earlier in the day.

David E. Goings III, 24, faces a preliminary charge of armed robbery, a Class B felony, according to Auburn Police Department Detective Stacy Sexton.

Goings was arrested at approximately 9:15 p.m. by Auburn Officer Sean Miller and Sgt. Sean Kahkola at a residence on Huron Way on the city’s east side. Sexton said the arrest came about because of help from the general public and “good old-fashioned police work” by Miller and Kahkola.

No one was injured in the robbery.

Police allege Goings entered the Hoosier Stop N Go, located at the corner of Seventh Street and Duesenberg Drive, at approximately 10 a.m. He purchased an item, then left the store. Three minutes later, police said Goings re-entered the store when there were no other customers inside.

Goings went to the counter, Sexton alleged, displayed a knife and told the attendant he wanted all of the money.

“The attendant was scared to death,” Sexton said.

Goings then allegedly exited the store with an undisclosed amount of cash and Marlboro cigarettes.

“He left on foot, walking westbound on Duesenberg,” Sexton said.
