FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The Fort Wayne Police Department responded to reports of a robbery attempt at the Gardenview Apartment complex located at 5345 North Clinton Street around 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday.
According to Fort Wayne Public Information Officer Raquel Foster, a man waited inside an apartment hallway and forced a woman, who had been out walking her dog, into her unit. The suspect reportedly got frustrated because of a language barrier and smacked the woman in the face.
Because of the recent string of robberies at apartment complexes , the woman had a knife in the apartment but the suspect grabbed it first and stabbed her in the abdomen on the side. Medics transported the victim to a hospital in serious condition.
Police don’t believe the suspect was otherwise armed and he did not get away with any items or cash.
This was the third time residents within the Gardenview complex have been targeted in a week and the 12th armed robbery or robbery attempt at an apartment complex within Fort Wayne in about as long.
